## Renewable Energy Growth

The U.S. power grid is set to add 63 gigawatts (GW) of new utility-scale electric-generating capacity in 2025, with solar and battery storage accounting for 81% of the expected total capacity additions[5][6]. Solar power alone will make up over 50% of the increase, with Texas (11.6 GW) and California (2.9 GW) accounting for almost half of the new utility-scale solar capacity additions this year[6]. This represents an almost 30% increase from 2024, when 48.6 GW of capacity was installed, marking the largest capacity installation in a single year since 2002[6].

## Energy Storage Expansion

Energy storage experienced substantial growth in 2024, adding a record 10.4 GW of new utility-scale capacity, marking a 51% increase from the previous year[7]. This trend is continuing in 2025, with battery storage playing a major role in new power capacity additions across the United States[5][6]. The growth is being driven by falling prices, government incentives, and increasing demand for clean electricity from businesses and households[5].

## Natural Gas Developments

Developers plan to build 4.4 GW of new natural gas-fired capacity in the United States during 2025, with 50% coming from simple-cycle combustion turbines and 36% from combined-cycle power blocks[6]. Utah, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Tennessee account for more than 70% of these planned natural gas additions, with the two largest projects being the 840-MW Intermountain Power Project in Utah and the 678.7-MW Magnolia Power in Louisiana[6]. The Intermountain Power Project will replace 1,800 MW of coal-fired capacity scheduled to be retired in July[6].

## Southeast Asia and Pacific Renewable Expansion

Southeast Asia and the Pacific region are set to bring 23 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity online in 2025[4]. Major projects include a 250-megawatt floating solar array in the Philippines and Acen’s delivery of over 1.2 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity, including a 520-megawatt solar park in New South Wales, Australia, and the 146-megawatt Monsoon Wind project in Laos[4].

## Battery Manufacturing Progress

As of Q1 2025, there are 123 operating battery manufacturing projects in the US, according to the Clean Investment Monitor[3]. This manufacturing capacity supports the growing deployment of energy storage systems and electric vehicles across the country.

## Global Energy Transition Milestones

2025 marks a significant milestone in the global energy transition as renewables-based electricity generation is set to overtake coal-fired generation worldwide[8]. This transition continues to accelerate with China leading in renewable electricity capacity additions and the European Union rapidly deploying solar PV and wind in response to the energy crisis[8].

## Industry Events

EVOLVE 2025, Enverus’ flagship energy conference, is currently taking place in Houston (May 12-15), bringing together leaders from traditional energy, power, and renewables sectors[1]. The conference is addressing key challenges and opportunities in the energy transition landscape.
